The private performance 2000

From the exhibition The Cliché is the Ultimate Expression. The Living Arts Museum 2000.

Performance was created for the exhibition The Cliché is the Ultimate Expression at the LAM in September 2000. The exhibition ran alongside the play Shopping and Fucking, shown at LAM at the same time. The play dealt with the alienation of consumer society and the harshness of modern life, including drugs and prostitution.

At the exhibition opening, I sold private performances in a portable wc in the courtyard. The price was a voluntary contribution and people received a performance that fit the amount they paid.

Few people were willing to pay for contemporary art made on the spot especially for them. One could even say that some of the performances were “poor” in that sense. Few people however, paid generously and received live art directly into their “veins”. The content of the performances was never the same and remain a secret between the artist and the buyer.
