National Gallery of Iceland, Reykjavík.
This site-specific video was the third work of its kind that I created. Its aim was to make the viewer more aware of the space itself, to suggest that nothing is quite as it first appears. Even an empty room could be the artwork, unsettling expectations and making something out of “nothing.”
Three overlapping projections faded in and out, appearing and disappearing into one another in an endless combination from the three projectors. The slow movement made the space feel as if it were breathing. Shifting images created a sense of changing architecture that linked the viewer back to the larger museum environment.
The installation was silent and calming. The gradual dissolves recalled the rhythm and movement of the northern lights.
